USPS Proposed
Mailbox Regulations

In the May 9 issue of Currents, we included an article about a negotiated rulemaking the USPS is undertaking that could result in changes in the size and security specifications for mailboxes ("gang" or "apartment" style boxes). These changes could be applied to existing buildings. BOMA International has a seat on the committee that is negotiating this rulemaking. While the National Association of Homebuilders, National Association of Realtors, and the National Multi Housing Council are also represented, the real estate participants are far outnumbered by the other reps., which include mailbox manufacturers, installers, magazine publishing groups, and direct mail concerns -- all of whom adamantly want these changes to go through.

We need to know just how big of a potential problem this would pose to building owners/managers. To do this, we put together a survey that was also included in the last issue of Currents. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to gather a truly representative response. We would greatly appreciate it if you all could resend it directly to your members and encourage their participation.
